As Pope Francis has been battling respiratory problems all winter and skipped the traditional Good Friday procession last week, many people have concerns about Pope Francis’s health who will turn into age 88 at the end of this year. Then more and more people turn their interest to an eight-hundred year old Prophecy of the Popes by Saint
Malachy.
In Saint Malachy’s Prophecy of the Popes, Pope Francis would be the 112th Pope and the last Pope before “The End” comes. So, does that prophecy mean that Pope Francis will be the last Pope before the End of the World? What do these prophecies really mean?
Now, as the Peace Messiah for the “Second Coming” has come, here is the answer and explanation from the Messiah of the “Second Coming” on this Prophecy of the Popes.
1. The Prophecy of 112 Popes by St. Malachy
Saint Malachy was born in 1094 at Armagh, Ireland and died on November 2, 1148. He is an Irish saint who was Archbishop of Armagh in the 12th century. Saint Malachy was known as a spiritual healer and seer who performed some supernatural miracles and saw the vision of 112 Popes in the future. He was canonized in 1190 by Pope Clement III as the first Irish saint to be canonized.
While in Rome in 1139, Saint Malachy received a vision showing him all the Popes from his day to the end of time. He wrote poetic descriptions of each of the pontiffs and presented the complete manuscript to Pope Innocent II, but the manuscript was then placed into the Vatican Secret Archives and was forgotten until 1590.
In 1590, a Benedictine monk named Arnold de Wyon found the manuscript of Saint Malachy’s Prophecy of the Popes and was fascinated by its prophecies. He then published Saint Malachy’s Prophecy of the Popes, which consists of 112 short Latin descriptions of future Popes. Each of these descriptions identifies one outstanding trait for each of these future popes, beginning with Pope Celestine II, who was elected in 1130. This list stretches all the way from the time of Saint Malachy to the present, including Pope John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and Pope Francis.
These mottoes in the prophecies usually refer to a family name, birthplace, a coat-of-arms, or an office held before election to the papacy. For example, here are the Mottos of the last three Popes in Saint Malachy’s Prophecy of the Popes:

The Motto of the 110th Pope: The Labor/Eclipse of the Sun
- Pope John Paul II (1978-2005)
John Paul was born on May 18, 1920, on the day of a solar eclipse, and his funeral also took place on the day of a solar eclipse. Pope John Paul worked like the sun circling the earth in his evangelical travels, and he brought the light of Christ, “the Sun of Righteousness” (Malachi 4:2), to the former Communist countries in the Eastern European and the former Soviet Union, which eventually led to the collapse of the Communist countries in Europe and the end of the Cold War.

The Motto of the 111th Pope: The Glory of the Olive
- Pope Bendict XVI (2005-2013)
Pope Benedict XVI took his name from St. Benedict, whose order was known as the
Olivetans. Before being elected as the Pope in 2005, Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger had been the Dean of the College of Cardinals and the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith since 1981. He has been described as "the main intellectual force in the Church" since the mid-1980s. His teaching and leadership brought the Church back to traditional Catholic doctrine and values. In the Bible, Jesus also gave his glorious lesson and apocalyptic prophecy about the end time on the Mount of Olives.

The Motto of the 112th Pope: Peter the Roman
- Pope Francis (2013 – now)
“In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church, there will sit Peter the Roman, who will pasture his sheep in many tribulations, and when these things are finished, the city of seven hills [i.e. Rome] will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge will judge his people. The
End.”

Here is how this motto of prophecy about the Last Pope was fulfilled by Pope Francis.
2. The Fulfillment of the Prophecy of “Petrus Romanus - Peter the Roman”
Jorge Mario Bergoglio was born on 17 December 1936 in Flores, a neighborhood of Buenos Aires in Argentina. His father Mario Jose Bergoglio was an immigrant accountant from Italy in 1929 to escape the fascist rule of Benito Mussolini. His mother Regina Maria Sivori was born in Buenos Aires to a family of northern Italian origin. So Pope Francis does have an Italian or Roman Bloodline.
On March 13 2013, Argentina Archbishop and Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio was elected as the Pope of the Catholic Church. He chose Francis as his papal name in honor of Saint Francis of Assisi.
Saint Francis of Assisi (Italian: Francesco d'Assisi; c. 1181 – 3 October 1226), was an Italian Catholic friar, the founder of the Franciscan Order, and one of the most venerated figures in Christianity. His birth name was Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone, and his father’s name was Pietro di Bernardone dei Moriconi. Both names contained “Pietro”, which means Peter. On 18 June 1939, Pope Pius XII named Francis a joint Patron Saint of Italy along with Catherine of Siena, which made him literally the Patron of Rome. Saint Francis of Assisi did have a very special spiritual connection between Peter and Roman.
Saint Francis of Assisi was known for his charity work for the poor, the rapprochement with the Muslim world, and great love for the animals and natural environment since he considered them all as the creation of God. On 29 November 1979, Pope John Paul II declared Francis the Patron Saint of Ecology, or Patron Saint of Environment and Animals.
After Pope Francis was elected in March 2013 and chose Francis as his papal name, Pope Francis followed the example set by Saint Francis of Assisi and did a great job on taking care of the poor, advocating for the environment preservation and promoting interfaith religious dialogues with other religious leaders. In the last two thousand years, Pope Francis is the only Pope who chose Francis as his papal name. Therefore, through the spiritual connection with Saint Francis of Assisi, Pope Francis does fulfill Malachy’s prophecy of “Petrus Romanus - Peter the Roman”.
3. The Prophetic Meaning of Peter – From Peter the Apostle to Peter the Roman
Many people may wonder why Peter the Roman will be the last Pope in Malachy’s prophecy. Because Peter the Apostle was the first Pope of the Catholic Church chosen by Jesus Christ, Peter the Roman will be the last Pope before the Messiah of the “Second Coming” comes.
In Chapter 16 of the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” “But what about you?” he asked Peter. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah/Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Then Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” (Matthew 16:13-19)
That’s the authority of Jesus Christ given to Peter to establish the church on the earth for all Christians. After the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Peter led other apostles of Christ to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ across the Roman Empire. Peter the Apostle established the first Christian church in Rome, the capital of the Roman Empire, and also the first church in Antioch. Therefore, he was considered as the first bishop of Rome, or Pope of Rome, and also as the first bishop of Antioch.
In the Catholic Church, Peter the Apostle was the first Pope of the Catholic Church who received authority directly from Jesus Christ.
Now, as the Messiah of the “Second Coming” has come, Peter the Roman will be the last Pope before the “Second Coming”.
It completes the cycle from
Peter the Apostle to Peter the Roman.
Nowadays, the
attendance to the Catholic Church is declining worldwide and many splendid
churches in Europe are vacant or even used for commercial or other purposes.
It's time for the Catholic Church to revive the faith in Christ and have a new
Reformation with the New Revelation of the Eternal Gospel from the Messiah of
the "Second Coming" for the New Millennium. The old apostolic lineage will be ended and new apostolic lineage will begin.
"The End" in the
prophecy of St Malachy is not the "End of the World", but the
End of the old time and the beginning of the New Era of Peace & Wisdom.
